We design and manufacture high voltage electrical disconnect switches, motor operators, and automation products primarily used by the electrical utility industry. JOB SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
- Provide technical support and design assistance for internal Applications Engineering groups to verify structural design capability, quality and safety
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Designs, reviews and analyzes proposed structural supports, brackets and braces to ensure required performance
- Performs finite element analysis on medium to extra high voltage apparatus structures and supports.
- Partners closely with Applications Engineering teams to ensure consistency in quality of design.
- Verifies required electrical clearances for disconnect switches per established national standards for substation and transmission applications.
- Works directly with Engineering, Sales, and external customers on order technical requirements.
- Authors written design guidance references for drafters and designers.
- Authors technical reports for customers to support structural design decisions.
- Presents analysis to internal and external customers when necessary.
- Consults with fabrication and assembly departments to verify manufacturing and assembly feasibility.
- Contributes to company improvement initiatives related to improvement of business processes, design standards and manufacturing methods.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Knowledgeable in structural design and analysis
- Familiarity with mechanical systems design; linkages, motors, gears, materials selection.
- Ability to effectively communicate, present information and respond to complex technical questions.
- Ability to multitask and balance priorities based on internal and external customer needs.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to proactively identify and correct errors.
- Structured approach to identifying problems and finding solutions.
- Ability to operate independently and collaborate well with others, in particular with group analysis and design efforts.
- Demonstrated proficiency with structural analysis and FEA software
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Demonstrated proficiency with CAD software and 2D Drafting/3D Modeling
- Strong time management, organization and planning skills.
CREDENTIALS, CERTIFICATIONS & INDUSTRY-SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree or greater in Mechanical, Structural or Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Familiarity with high voltage apparatus design and application preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate required proficiency level/competency to successfully perform job.
