Make a Difference with AmeriCorps! AmeriCorps members help make learning fun for Club members by planning, implementing, and evaluating activities provided within a specific program area, such as Education, Leadership & Service, Sports & Recreation, the Arts, and Health & Wellness. The focus of this after-school program is Education - homework help and tutoring, high-yield learning activities, and other components of a well-rounded program to encourage learning, build academic skills & confidence, and help to shape the character traits that will translate into a successful future.

Join AmeriCorps– Members complete a minimum of 300 hours per term of service (3 terms per year available)

Service Times – now accepting applications for the Spring Term: January 3rd, 2023 – May 12th, 2023:

• Must be available for service daily: Monday – Friday - 2:30-7pm (after school hours). SCHEDULE IS DEPENDENT ON SCHOOL CALENDAR SO SUBJECT TO CHANGE. SCHEDULE MAY VARY BY CLUB AND WILL BE DISCUSSED UPON APPLICATION.
• Living Allowance (term used for PAY): $2,600 per term: divided in equal pay periods throughout the term.
• Educational Award: up to $1,374 (paid to educational or financial institution) depending on successful completion of term.
• Must be at least 18 years old & highly responsible, with dependable transportation
• U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident
• MUST Attend mandatory pre-service orientation PSO, trainings, & Service project(s)
• Living Allowance stipend paid according to Boys & Girls Clubs pay schedule, with standard deductions
• PLEASE NOTE: Living Allowance and pay are one and the same; this is basically volunteer service but with some compensation to help with living expenses while doing service with AmeriCorps.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

• Experience in working with children.
• Knowledge of youth development.
• Ability to motivate and encourage youth
• Ability to help students with ELA, Reading, and Math homework
• Ability to deal with the general public.
• Ability to organize and supervise Club members in a safe environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Character traits of patience and self-control
• Emotional and mental stability required when working with children
• Ability to function under stress and pressure
• Ability to make a commitment and to stand firm in that commitment
• Must love children
• Valid State Driver’s License & own transportation strongly preferred
• Desire to work in a creative, fast paced, team environment
• Problem solving and conflict resolution skills
