This position is responsible for estimating materials for projects. They estimate material requirements by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents. Through blueprint take offs and spec sheets all building materials specified, or equal substitutes are compiled and presented in a quote that best calculates the overall cost of building materials for the specified project.

Estimator duties and responsibilities
Explore documentation to gain a deep understanding of the project requirements
Use blueprints to measure, estimate and document required building materials metrics
Perform analysis of collected data and metrics
In an expeditious fashion, prepare relevant and reliable material requirements including but not limited to lumber, sheathing, doors, windows, and EWP
Create and present material quotations to salesmen and others as required
Build and maintain long-term relationships with the key vendors
Maintain a log of jobs being estimated and the progress of each, either in house or sourced.

Estimator requirements
Previous working experience as construction estimator
In-depth knowledge of construction requirements and techniques
Hands on experience with complex blueprints
Good understanding of building materials and their applications
Familiarity with computer programs such as beam calc and other estimating software
Good time-management skills
Ability to multi-task
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Critical-thinker and problem-solver
Experience in engineering, construction science or similar relevant field
