Job description

*Full-time AmeriCorps Position: September 1, 2023-July 26, 2024 Serving Catholic K-8 School Program*

Make a difference to the kids in the Watsonville community! Gain job skills and earn up to $10,000 for your education as a member.

NDMVA teams work with local partners to increase access to education and other essential social services. We focus on providing small-group and one-on-one instruction in K-12 schools and conduct specialized outreach to help families in the community access resources. By collaborating with local organizations, NDMVA aims to make a lasting impression on Moreland Notre Dame School for 11 months, full-time (up to 1700 hours), under the supervision of an on-site supervisor, and city Site Director.

Under their guidance the member will be responsible for facilitating safe, in-person academic support for the students of Moreland Notre Dame. The member will provide small group academic support and mentorship in daily classroom settings, and support for the after-school programs.

The AmeriCorps member must be willing to adapt to an evolving environment as COVID-19 presents new challenges to the Watsonville community, and be able to collaborate positively with adults and youth.

We are seeking a dynamic individual with effective communication and teamwork skills. The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, an interest in leadership, and a passion for helping children achieve their educational goals. In this role, it is essential to create a safe and supportive learning environment and to effectively engage and encourage children in their academic pursuits per the Notre Dame AmeriCorps Volunteer mission.

NDMVA- Watsonville is a team of talented, diverse individuals committed to serving the community full-time for 11 months. As a member of our team, you will be placed at a primary service site, but will receive ongoing support from your team through regular meetings, occasional service projects, team weekends, and our annual national conference. Many of our members choose to live in community housing in Watsonville with their teammates during the service year, which is provided at a subsidized rate. This is a wonderful opportunity to build strong relationships with your cohort and make a meaningful impact in the community.

Because full-year NDMVA members are expected to fulfill 1700 hours of combined service and training over the course of their 11-month program, the member is expected to be serving at school 40 hours/week on average. The members will be released from their on-site duties to participate in on-going team training (biweekly on Friday mornings) and periodic NDMVA team activities and service projects as overseen by their Site Director, including a 3-day conference outside of Baltimore, Maryland.
