AFTERNOON BUILDING CUSTODIAN

BOTHWELL MIDDLE SCHOOL

  • 8 Hours Per Day, M-F, 2:30 PM - 11:00PM
  • $12.13 base pay with $0.30/hr shift differential for afternoons
  • 12 month position

REPORTS TO: Director of Auxiliary Services, Principal, Assistant Principal, Director of Kaufman Auditorium

RATIONALE: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Demonstrated ability to take initiative.

2. Ability to read basic operating instructions, write reports, and follow written and oral instructions.

3. Computer literacy required; must be able to effectively utilize the school management information system, work order system and other computer programs.

4. Passing score on the District’s pre-employment test.

5. Must have a valid driver’s license.

6. Record of integrity and reliability.

7. Ability to work cooperatively and positively with staff, faculty, students, administration and the community.

8. Mechanical / maintenance aptitude necessary to successfully complete tasks assigned.

9. HVAC experience preferred.

10. Must be capable of heavy lifting and transporting equipment as necessary.

11. Professional appearance and personal cleanliness.

12. Must meet health/physical requirements as required by performance responsibilities: regularly lift, push and pull 50 – 75 pounds, stand, walk, see, hear, talk, stoop, crawl, etc.

13. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Performs general plumbing, electrical, carpentry and mechanical work.

2. Performs general cleaning and maintenance of the school building.

3. Performs minor building repairs; reports major repairs promptly to the Supervisor, Head Custodian and/or Principal.

4. Monitors and assists all building users including students, staff, renters and visitors.

5. Performs snow removal services as needed including shoveling, snow blowing, plowing, salting, sanding, etc.

6. Performs HVAC services to adjust and maintain the building heating and cooling systems.

7. Moves furniture and equipment as required for various activities, including the piano / orchestra lift, bleachers, risers, stage floor, etc.

8. Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, play areas and grounds, neat and clean.

9. Assumes responsibility for the general fire safety of the building.

10. Assumes responsibility for general security of the building, including closing the building each school day and determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.

11. Remains on the school premises during assigned hours and/or when the use of the building has been authorized and attendance is required as directed by the Supervisor, Principal or Head Custodian.

12. Complies with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste.

13. Lowers the United States Flag after 3:30 p.m. on work days (where applicable).

14. Complies with all Federal and State laws and MIOSHA standards for the building as directed.

15. Reports immediately to the Supervisor, Head Custodian and/or Principal any damage to school property.

16. Works in a safe manner, aware of personal safety and the safety of others.

17. Performs duties of a lower classification when required.

18. Works weekends, holidays, and/or overtime hours as willing / needed.

19. Performs other duties as assigned.
