SOME (So Others Might Eat) exists to help the homeless and poor of Washington, DC. With over 30 programs throughout the District of Columbia, we provide a wide spectrum of services to the most vulnerable individuals and families of our city. SOME’s affordable housing for families offers safe, dignified, and affordable apartments to families experiencing homelessness and/or poverty.

SOME’s family housing includes playgrounds and community spaces for the enrichment of the children and adults in residence. Children living in our family services programs attend SOME Place for Kids, after-school tutoring, and an enrichment program that supports their educational and social development needs.
Covid-19 Considerations: SOME (So Others Might Eat) currently has a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy. We require all employees to be fully vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccination and boosters, except where a reasonable medical or religious accommodation can be granted upon review by human resources. SOME (So Others Might Eat) is currently seeking a part-time after-school Education Program Assistant for our Family Services program at Barnaby Cheasapeake House in SE Washington, DC.

Position Description: The Education Program Assistant provides assistance with youth programming and educational activities for children 5-13 years old.

Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm; Friday 12noon - 4:00 pm (20 hours/week), on-site
Qualifications:
**
Required: HS/GED; 1-3 yrs experience in education or social services; experience providing education/tutoring services to children. CPR/First-Aid, CPR for Infants

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree; 3-5 yrs experience in education or social services; experience providing services to at-risk students and low-income families; Valid Driver's License.

Expected Contributions: Youth Programming

  • Lead youth through SOME Place for Kids activities in after-school programs (approx. ages 5-13)
  • Collaborate with Youth Services Coordinator and staff to develop and implement programs
  • Assist in developing communications to promote programs
  • Communicate with students and parents to collect report cards, collect permission slips, etc.
  • Purchase supplies, as needed
  • Assist with tutoring activities for children
  • Develop monthly activities calendar
  • Assist with administrative issues, as needed
