Advance Practice Provider I

Scope of the Job

An Advanced Practice Registered Nurse is licensed in the State of Florida and, under administrative direction, provides medical/ surgical services to patients as defined by protocol filed with the State of Florida and signed by a physician licensed to practice medicine/surgery in the State of Florida. The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse will assist with specific medical program and clinical operations; counsel patients regarding their health; prepares reports and summaries.

Essential Functions

1. Provide an evaluation of the patient including performance of adequate history and physical examination and/or ordering of laboratory and other diagnostic studies as indicated.

2. Provides care for those clients for which the APRN has been educated. Under the direction of the supervising physician, assists with specific medical program and clinical operations; counsels patients regarding their health.

3. Assess and manage patients, including diagnostic and therapeutic intervention utilizing appropriate consultation and established protocols.

4. Establish plans of care with patient and family that maximize health potential. Perform those routine medical treatments and diagnostic procedures for which they are qualified to perform by training.

5. Provide interventions based upon established priorities. Provides acute and chronic patient care including taking histories, doing physicals, prescribing and monitoring therapies, giving injections and medications, suturing wounds.

6. Maintain a process for systematic patient follow-up. Triage patient calls and evaluate patient problems.

7. Provide health education and utilize community resource opportunities for the individual and/or family. Recognizes serious, life-threatening emergencies, evaluates them appropriately and ensures patients receive prompt care required to stabilize

8. Facilitate patient participation in health and medical care providing information needed to make health decisions and choices.

9. Participate as a team member in the provision of health and medical care, interacting with professional colleagues to provide comprehensive care. Instructs and counsels patients/ families with regard to their illness or injury, therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, treatment regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, problems of daily living and routine health maintenance. Provide continuity of care.

10. Documents patient information, results of physical examination and laboratory/radiographic studies, reports from consulting physicians and all care provided in patient record. Uses EMR to access/enter required/needed data.

Temperament

Must be able to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, or unusual situations. Must be capable of dealing with periodic cyclical workload pressures and levels of responsibility. Required to make independent judgments without supervision. Must be able to make generalizations, evaluations, or decisions based on sensory or judgmental criteria. Must have the adaptability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure. Requires the ability to work with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.




Job Requirements:

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Knowledge of medical procedures and terminology; interpersonal/human relations’ skills
Ability to implement and interpret policies and procedures
Demonstrates clinical skill in area of ambulatory care and / or particular specialization.

Experience

Appropriate experience in specialty area preferred

Education and Certifications

Masters degree in nursing or graduate of a JCAHO approved nurse practitioner program
Current advanced nurse practitioner license in the State of Florida with prescription authority.
National Certification as a nurse practitioner by a recognized national certifying body
BLS Required
PALS is preferred
ACLS preferred

Certification/Licensure

Required/Preferred Qualifier

Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner License required or at time of hire
Physician Assistant License required at time of hire


Must meet the hospital credentialing requirements
