Harris County Public Library (HCPL) - History
What began in 1921 and the years following as a collection of small libraries housed in stores, post offices and private homes has grown into a system of 26 branch buildings, 2 technology service centers, and 2 partner locations offering collection/circulation services. HCPL operates branches in unincorporated parts of Harris County and cities which do not have their own library systems.

This position is responsible for developing programs for an adult audience. Provide customer service, reader’s advisory, and basic reference service. In collaboration with the department head, participates in planning and providing Innovation Lab services. Coordinates and maintains the genealogy collection. Exemplify the high standards and expectations for the library system in its daily operations and services.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provides customer service, reader’s advisory, and basic reference service within and beyond our walls
  • Promotes library services to adults and the community
  • Collaborates with the branch team to develop, implement, and market programs in the library and community
  • Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with local/community organizations
  • Develops and maintains the library genealogy collection and other collection areas as assigned
  • Attends staff meetings, activities, and/or professional conferences, and actively serves on committees
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in any field and
  • At least one (1) year of program experience (e.g., activities for adults)
OR
  • Associate Degree in any field and
  • At least three (3) years of program experience (e.g., activities for adults)
OR
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and
  • At least five (5) years of program experience (e.g., activities for adults)
PLUS
  • One (1) year of Customer Service experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment.
  • Ability to work well with the public and staff members.
  • Proficient with Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).
  • Proficient with the Internet and Office 365.
  • Must use personal mobile device for the Multifactor Authentication process
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Some duties would require the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and bending & standing for periods at a time.

General Information

LOCATION:

    • 1500 Keene Street | Galena Park, TX 77547
HOURS:
  • Full-Time; 40 hours a week.
  • Typical shifts are Day, Evening, Nights, Weekends, etc.
SALARY:
  • $18.25 Per Hour.
  • Paid Biweekly
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • This job typically operates in a professional office environment.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. At times, work can be performed in an outdoor environment and possible exposure to inclement weather or various temperature changes.
  • There could be exposure to dangerous or aggressive/adverse populations.
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
