R.J. Corman Railroad Company is seeking an Administrative Assistant to be based out of Lexington, KY and serving all of its short line railroads.

Accountability: Develops, implements, and coordinates policies, programs, and procedures in the Maintenance of Way/Engineering and Mechanical areas of FRA Compliance and employee safety across all R.J. Corman railroad properties and affiliates.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements, and coordinates safety training programs for employees as determined by management. Including, New hire and annual refresher training.
  • Development and implementation of all required FRA Safety policies, programs, and training in compliance with FRA 243 requirements for all engineering employees, including signal systems and communications.
  • Develop and execute training materials to address:Changes in FRA or other Federal/State agencies regulations that involve the rail industry.

Changes in standards of intersecting railroad companies that our company shares interchange and trackage rights with.
Changes in company-specific operating procedures.

  • Establishes a record keeping system for maintenance of records of training and employee certifications. Maintain recordkeeping relating to employee training, classroom testing, OJT and other information required by the company and federal agencies. Keeps management informed of any employee certification requirements and impending expirations.
  • Assures departmental compliance with all laws, regulations and company policies as relates to employee safety and FRA compliance.
  • Initiates policies, programs, and procedures for the prevention of accidents and injuries at all engineering facilities and work sites of the railroad company, including safe work practices, safety rules, safety training, and ergonomic programs.
  • Provides regular reports and data for the department. These include reports of track related derailments, HFIs, injuries, and first Aid incidents. Analyzes trends upon which to design and implement programs to control injuries, accidents, and losses.
  • Creates and maintains written documentation of the department’s overall safety, health, and environmental program; establishes goals at least annually for the improvement and maintenance of safety standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in business or safety and health-related curriculum or equivalent experience. Three to five years experience in the management of employee safety, preferably within relevant railway, construction site and heavy equipment operations. Specialized knowledge in applicable state and federal safety, health and environmental regulations acquired through experience and/or professional training and education. Demonstrated effectiveness in creating safety training and accident prevention programs. Computer literate with experience in word processing, spreadsheet and presentation computer programs. Incumbent should possess professional training in teaching and development of adults or have equivalent work experience. Previous direct employee supervision experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements: Moderate to extensive travel required; lifting of up to 50 pounds for movement of instructional and safety equipment; ability to safely mount and dismount heavy operating equipment and traverse outside work sites.

Environmental Conditions: Performs duties in multiple environments including office environment, warehouse/distribution centers and outside construction/derailment sites. Exposure to weather elements and construction activity, requiring appropriate PPE.
