The Administrative Assessing Assistant performs administrative and customer service work for the public, Principal Assessors and Data Collector.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The essential functions listed below are illustrations of various types of work performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position work is similar, related, or logical to the position.

-Ability to work with databases and ability to problem solve.

-Prepares and processes preliminary and actual bill processes from assessing system to financial system. Problem solves and tests as necessary.

-Reviews, qualifies, and Inputs monthly sale and deed information.

-Reviews monthly budget expenditures, prepares for review.

-Reviews and qualifies all tax deferral and tax exempt applications, Including reviewing confidential financial and personal information.

-Prepares for Principal Assessor and BOA review.

-Prepares money and department cash turnover as needed.

-Assists Principal and Deputy Assessors with various duties such as input personal property and real property information into computer assisted mass appraisal system.

-Reviews, qualifies, and processes motor vehicle excise tax abatements

-Provides property and map Information to public via public counter, telephone or email. Explains and assists public with forms and questions.

-Prepares BOA agenda and related papers.

-Schedules and coordinates property inspections for staff as necessary.

-Prepares mailings and labels, reviews in-coming mail and applications for proper distribution laction.

-Prepares annual exemption and CPA forms for state reporting and town reimbursement.

-Prepares and approves abutters lists.

-Reviews Information Guideline Releases on exemptions for statute compliance. -

-Performs additional duties as directed or upon situation.

SUPERVISION Works under the general direction of the Principal Assessor and Data Collector in accordance with applicable Massachusetts General Laws, town policies, town by-laws, and relevant state, federal, and local regulations and standards.

WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in office conditions. The workload is subject to administrative and statutory deadlines; may attend evening meetings and/or off site workshops, meetings, or courses. The employee operates standard office equipment. The employee has regular contact with the public, other town departments, state departments, real estate professionals, attorneys, and banks. The employee reviews and has access to confidential information about taxpayers.

RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Two year college degree; four years of office experience; municipal experience in CAMA, GIS, and municipal financial systems preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Microsoft WORD and EXCEL intermediate level required. KNOWLEDGE. ABILITY AND SKILL Knowledge of office procedures, familiarity with value concepts, basic appraisal practices and state laws pertaining to municipal assessing. Ability to work Independently, prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and maintain detailed records. Computer skills; office skills, customer service skills, communication skills, skill and accuracy working with numbers and details.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Minimum physical effort is required to perform functions in office conditions. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand at counter, speak and hear and use hands to operate office equipment. Vision requirements include the ability to read documents and use a computer.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.34 - $30.70 per hour
