Job Summary

Supports the Agency mission statement in assisting consumers to resolve problems and improve functioning, and contributes to the Agency’s capacity to serve the individual, families and communities needs. Per the Pennsylvania ACT Guidelines, the remaining clinical staff may be bachelor’s level and paraprofessional mental health workers who carry out rehabilitation and support functions. A bachelor’s level mental health worker has a bachelor’s degree in social work or behavioral science, and work experience with adults with serious mental illness. A paraprofessional mental health worker may have a bachelor’s degree in a field other than behavioral sciences or have a high school degree and work experience with adults with serious mental illness or with individuals with similar human-services needs. These paraprofessionals may have related training (e.g., certified occupational therapy assistant, home health care aide) or work experience (e.g., teaching) and life experience.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, counseling, psychology. A paraprofessional mental health worker may have a bachelor’s degree in a field other than behavioral sciences or have a high school degree and work experience with adults with serious mental illness or with individuals with similar human-services needs. These paraprofessionals may have related training (e.g., certified occupational therapy assistant, home health care aide) or work experience (e.g., teaching) and life experience

Experience: At least two (2) years of post graduate clinical experience and/or licensure is preferred and may be required in some programs.

9. Basic knowledge of normal and abnormal personality development.

10. Basic knowledge of family systems and interactions.

11. Ability to forge a mutually respectful partnership with persons served and their families in which they are helped to gain the skill and confidence to address any issues and problems they face; conviction about the capacity of people to grow and change; ability to set limits and maintain the helping role of the practitioner and to intervene appropriately to meet the needs of the persons served or other family members.

12. Ability to plan time sensitive goal directed treatment, and to carry out treatment using individual, joint, marital and group modalities.

13. Basic knowledge of treatment process appropriate to a wide variety of diagnostic categories and ages.

14. Basic ability to evaluate treatment progress and request help when needed, to relate non-defensively in supervision and use suggestions appropriately.

15. Ability to manage time and assigned responsibilities so as to meet the production requirement of the Agency.

16. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program personnel and other community agencies and caregivers, and ability to work in partnership with other team members.

17. Child Abuse History clearance (ACT 33) & Criminal History Record Clearance (ACT 34) required.

18. Must have a valid PA driver’s license, and insurance
