The Accounts Payable Supervisor leads a team within the U.S. Accounts Payable function responsible for ensuring sustained excellence in the function’s operations and providing exemplary service to the department’s customer base. Among key responsibilities are supervising daily operations, managing assigned personnel and systems, mitigating risk, resolving operational issues, supporting team strategies/initiatives and innovating. This is a critical and visible role requiring both strong leadership and tactical expertise.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions


General:

  • Administers the function’s daily operations
  • Leads, assesses performance of and develops assigned staff
  • Drives exemplary service to attorneys, Firm practices and administrative colleagues
  • Ensures a robust control system and sufficient risk mitigation
  • Ensures timely and accurate processing of disbursement requests and payments and completion of other departmental responsibilities
  • Ensures pristine and accurate recordkeeping and processing
  • Assesses departmental practices and processes; recommends and implements enhancements
  • Optimally leverages departmental financial systems and technology
  • Supports departmental strategies
  • Leads training initiatives and implementation of sophisticated process documentation
  • Assists in the development and reporting of departmental metrics and KPI’s
  • Performs other tasks as assigned

Tactical:
  • Develops comprehensive expertise on the Firm’s financial systems, policies and procedures
  • Is on the cutting edge of industry technologies and innovations

Qualifications:
Education/Training/Certifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field, strongly preferred, an equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of the degree when experience is directly related to the needs and expectations of the role

Professional Experience:
  • Five years+ in accounts payable, required
  • Prior leadership experience, strongly preferred
  • Experience in legal or other professional services environment, preferred
  • Accounting experience, preferred

Technical Skills:
  • Expert knowledge of financial and accounts payable operations and systems, required
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, required
  • Advanced knowledge of automated disbursements workflow systems (e.g. Chrome River, Concur, Coupa), strongly preferred
