Records, interprets and analyzes accounting records that support fixed asset accounting and the financial statements. Duties include a wide variety of fixed asset and general accounting processes, as well as other support processes. This position is responsible for reviewing/recording all CWIP and fixed asset activity including asset additions and retirements (including nuclear fuel), calculation of depreciation expense and AFUDC, unitization of assets and support the bondable additions process. This position also prepares monthly journal entries and account reconciliations, analyzes accounting data and performs monthly close procedures, including the compilation of fixed asset related schedules.

The ideal individual is detailed oriented, results focused, and meets deadlines. This position requires a demonstrated understanding of accounting principles and to effectively apply accounting principles to transactions, an ability and desire to understand fixed asset processes and systems, an ability to identify fundamental accounting issues and provide input on solutions, and an ability to complete tasks with a low degree of day-to-day supervision.

Job Duties:

  • Review and/or prepare all CWIP and fixed asset activity including asset additions and retirements (including nuclear fuel), calculation of depreciation expense and AFUDC, unitization of assets and support the bondable additions process.
  • Prepare journal entries, accounting analyses and monthly account reconciliations in accordance with departmental standards. Review and analyze journal entries, financial information, and accounting reports to ensure accuracy, timely processing, and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and regulatory guidelines.
  • Lead or assist in providing supplemental accounting support for activities such as routine and ad hoc financial analyses and reporting, implementation of new accounting processes, internal control and compliance activities, testing and implementation of new/upgraded systems, and special projects as required.
  • Prepare auditor (internal and external) required work papers and informational requests, and participate in business process walk-throughs.
  • Create and maintain documentation of assigned significant business processes and related accounting policies and job position responsibilities.

Required Qualifications:

Education: BBA in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field.

Experience:

  • Associate Accountant: 0-2 year's general accounting experience.
  • Staff Accountant: 2+ year's general accounting experience.
  • Senior Accountant: 4+ years of progressive general accounting experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to effectively communicate with all levels within the corporation. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications. Experience with fixed asset and general ledger accounting systems and reporting applications desirable. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneous.

Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations: CPA certificate or candidate preferred, but not required.
