The Office of Accessibility Services is currently seeking an Accessibility Services Coordinator who will oversee accommodations and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for all students with self-identified, documented disabilities in accordance with ADA requirements and as prescribed by medical professionals. This includes but is not limited to evaluating and providing a variety of direct and indirect accommodations and support services, both in the classroom and in all campus spaces that are academic and/or medical in nature. The Accessibility Services Coordinator must keep strict student confidentiality and maintain detailed and accurate student contact records describing needs, problems, referrals, requests, solutions and outcomes, and will ensure all services are coordinated and implemented across campus.


Essential Functions

  • Advise, monitor, analyze, and implement compliance with all disability laws and guidelines, paying special attention to current practices as well as creating new policies and procedures as needs arise to provide full academic, residence, and social access for all students
  • Conduct intake meetings for potential and new students
  • Write accommodation plans for current students and monitor their success, adjusting as necessary
  • Coordinate the proctoring of exams
  • Coordinate tutors, assistive aids, and any needs with on and off-campus providers
  • Work closely with Residence Life staff for all permanent and temporary housing accommodations due to illness, injury, or medical procedures, permanent disabilities, emotional support or service animals
  • Serve on the Student Consult committee
  • Participate in orientation, open houses, and other Admission events
  • Work collaboratively with Student Success Center to assure student success/retention through helping to plan and carry out meetings, workshops, etc.
  • Coordinate the delivery of accessibility services – relevant workshops for tutors and colleagues as requested
  • Careful collecting, documenting and archiving of meetings and plans put in place with students as required
  • Advise students on accessibility services as needed
  • Maintain and update all information on website


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required/master’s degree preferred in special education, school psychology /psychology, sociology/social work or related field.
  • Three – five years in higher education or relevant experience with state, private, or other academic settings/organizations/programs providing accessibility services
  • Current knowledge of disability law, including but not limited to Section 504, ADA, etc.
  • Working knowledge of support resources (technological and other supports for note-taking, studying, text-to speech, document conversion, etc.)
  • Superior knowledge of and commitment to confidentiality practices and policies, including FERPA; careful listener who respects and practices confidentiality and has enthusiasm and patience working with students, faculty, and staff in a diverse, fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to life-long learning, both for oneself and in support/encouragement of others
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent organization and time management habits; successfully juggle a variety of tasks and projects at the same time
  • Excellent technology skills, including all Word and Google Suite programs. Ability to learn and use basic knowledge of Moodle, PowerCampus, Self Service and other college applications helpful, or at least a quick learner of new academic technology
