While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. Advises students on strategies to address issues relating to high school deficiencies, academic warning, and academic probation.

Maintains awareness and knowledge of changes in academic requirements and also in policies and procedures.

Maintains a caseload of pre-major students. Counsels students on General Education curriculum and initial course requirements for all majors at U of M.

Provides academic counseling to students; counsels students regarding career goals and graduation requirements; explains academic policies and procedures

Provides orientation services to students; assists them in adjusting to new surroundings and academic demands. Articulates multiple options to new students and facilitates selection into programs such as Honors, Fresh Connections, ACAD, Study Abroad, and Student Support Services.

Provides students with referral information and resources on non-academic concerns such as financial aid, admissions, employment, and personal and career counseling. Serves as the primary contact for their students who receive Early Intervention notices.
