The purpose of the class is to maintain the working order of traffic signals in the city. The class is responsible for assembling, installing, repairing and modifying traffic signals, maintaining signal timing, and researching new signal requests. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed; develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.

KEY FUNCTIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Drives and operates hydraulic bucket trucks.
Installs, repairs, and modifies traffic signals, flashing lights, school zone flashing lights, and other traffic control equipment.
Schedules the work assignments and oversees the work of the other Traffic Signal Technicians.
Maintains and stores spare parts and supplies for the traffic signals and orders parts and supplies as necessary.
Assists in the maintenance of records of traffic signal timing and engineering drawings for all traffic signals.
Assists in determining whether new street sign or light requests can be justified.
Manages the filing of completed repair reports.
Performs related tasks as necessary.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Requires high school diploma or GED
Valid Texas Driver"s License.

I.M.S.A Certification,

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
Requires over six months and up to and including one year.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:
Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation electronic office machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
The City of Brownsville requires all employees to successfully pass a Drug & Alcohol examination and a Background Check.
