This position is highly administrative, managerial, with public contact, leading and managing the operation of the Brownsville Events Center and assures maximum use by soliciting and coordinating with the general public, service clubs and convention promoters to host national, regional and international conventions, trade shows, conferences, sporting events, etc. Provide for the day-to-day administration of the Events Center to include attracting and developing entertainment events for the benefit of the community. The manager is responsible for the overall operations, marketing, promotions, policy development, financial management, client and community relations and capital improvements. Work is of unusual difficulty requiring extensive initiative and independent judgement in a manner that achieves the creation of a positive economic impact for the community. Work is reviewed through periodic conferences, reports and results achieved.

KEY FUNCTIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Comprehensive knowledge of modern principles, best practices, trends, and techniques involve in the management of public events and convention/events center.
Considerable knowledge of modern management practices, public relations and promotion techniques, contracts and license agreement applications, human resources, guest services, trade publications on developments and information relating to the hospitality as well as business.
Ability to use leadership skills to plan, assign, direct and coordinate the work of staff in a manner that promotes optimal performance, write and speak clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings; set clear objectives and specific measures to monitor progress; establish and maintain effective working relations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Direct the policy, development, programming, financial management, sales & marketing, operations and community relations for the facility.
Develop effective programs for the successful future of the facility.
Develop policy recommendations for approval and implementation.
Responsible for financial management, including budget development, overview of financial and accounting systems, projections and controls and ensures efficient and effective operations, including capital maintenance and improvement projects.
Ensure proper communication between staff, user groups, the City of Brownsville administration through verbal and written reports.
Provide leadership, work related counsel, performance review with a vision and values in alignment with the City. Analyze problems, resolve disputes and grievances, and develop effective solutions.
Personnel management, evaluation of staff, succession planning, delegate tasks and authority, and coach to improve staff performance and professional growth.
Assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects and demands.
Work closely with Visit Brownsville (CVB), the Chamber of Commerce, and hotel/motel associations to attract city-wide events that stimulate the economy including negotiation and contracting.
Overall management of all in-house service providers and venue partners to ensure convention center service standards are maintained, revenue and expense forecast are established and research industry trends to stay ahead of competition.
Represent the City in a positive manner to the community, clients, and hospitality industry.
Responsible for publicly promoting the facility through speaking engagements, media interviews and other public appearances.
Prepares reports and correspondence; assigns, develops, manages unit budget and work processes.
Prepares and responds to emergency situations.
Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor"s degree in public or business administration, hospitality, or facilities management.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
Requires minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible work-related experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Requires a valid Texas Driver"s License.
Technical training and Certifications in Event Management preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:
Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing, performed in a standard office environment and public facilities. May occasionally be required to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects exerting between 10 and 20 pounds. Frequent need for skill, adeptness, and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation electronic office machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
