JOB DESCRIPTION:

Arlington Public Schools (APS) requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless a medical or religious exemption is approved. Being fully vaccinated means that an individual is at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen (i.e. Pfizer, Moderna, and/or Johnson and Johnson). As a condition of employment, newly hired employees will be required to provide proof of their COVID-19 vaccination.

Summer Elementary & Middle School Staff Orientation: June 29, 2023

Program Dates: July 5, 2023 - August 1, 2023

Location: Wakefield High School

Model: IN-PERSON

JULY 3, 2023 is not a work day for Summer School staff


Summer assignments will be staffed based on student needs.

English Learner (EL) Teachers:

Grade 8 English BRIDGE to English 9

Grade 9 English BRIDGE to English 10

Grade 10 English BRIDGE to English 11

The high school EL curriculum is based on Language Arts, literature, and thematic units which integrate reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Classes meet daily for one period.

  • This position is eligible for a $2,000 summer school T-scale bonus. This bonus will only be provided to current Arlington Public Schools (APS) employees. Employees must be in good standing in their current position for the 2022-23 school year and intend to return to APS for the 2023-24 school year. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide instruction for students in identified curriculum and differentiate content based on individual students' needs.
  • Participate in planning and professional learning before summer school.
  • Collaborate with staff regarding implementation of instruction, use of assessments and assessment results, and development of differentiated curriculum.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member with colleagues.
  • Flexible, dependable, and highly organized.
  • Desire to work with diverse community of learners.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with APS (Arlington Public Schools) English Learner program models and assessment procedures for ELs.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of best instructional practices for ELs (English Learners)
  • Ability to integrate technology
  • Teaching secondary English Learners ELs
  • Personalized learning strategies
  • Teaching English Language Arts to EL’s

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ESL endorsement: English endorsement preferred.
  • Available to participate in after-school professional learning activities.

SALARY:

Summer School Teachers who are APS employees during the year will be paid the Non-VRS equivalant rate. ( Please note Salary earned relative to summer school employment will not be included in the employee’s creditable compensation amount reported to the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).) If you resign effective the last day of the school year, you will receive a flat rate of $32.50 per hour for teachers. Pay Plan 22/23 SY (Page 50)
