Summary: The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) will assist the Group Facilitators and Case Managers by providing support services to clients receiving substance abuse and/or mental health services. This position requires constant observation and documentation of client behavior for clinical evaluation.

Position Description: This position carries out doctors’ orders, serving as the eyes, ears, and hands of the diagnosing professional. They report back on how the treatment is working or any unusual symptoms that need professional attention. They help patients with personal grooming and other activities of daily living. They also help conduct educational, recreational and therapeutic activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a Behavioral Health Technician:
Work Schedule: 5:30am - 2:30p.m. (1 hour lunch)

• Carrying out individual treatment plans prescribed by medical professionals.
• Monitoring patients and recording your observations.
• Reporting back on each patient's progress and concerns.
• Ensuring patients have a safe and supportive environment.
• Diffusing situations in which patients wish to harm themselves or others.
• Providing emotional support to patients.
• Alerting medical professionals to intervene in emergencies.
• Carrying out assessments and other administrative tasks.
• Maintaining strict patient confidentiality.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and Requirements:

• Certification or associate's degree in behavioral health.
• Experience working in a mental health institution or psychiatric ward a plus.
• Ability to treat patients with dignity and empathy. Acute observation skills.
• Ability to walk and stand 50-80% of the time
• Proficient computer skills including experience with Microsoft Excel Excellent clinical assessment and analytical skills
• Ability to work with all age groups and populations
• Driver's License is REQUIRED
• 21 yrs of age
• Fingerprint Clearance Card
• Current TB Test
• CPR/First Aid Certification
• Motor vehicle report
• Reliable transportation

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

Because patients/clients need care 24 hours a day, scheduled work hours may include nights, weekends and holidays. This position spends most of their time on their feet. BHT’s are sometimes confronted with violent patients who must be restrained.

• Protective holds & movements
• Blocking and redirecting patient movements against the patient’s weight (40-250 pounds)
• Physical interventions in response to aggressive and self-injurious behavior
• Ability to move quickly and confidently to intervene in situations when protective holds and/or movements are deemed necessary

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.40 per hour
